Language Arts Teacher                 
Milford High School                                      (August 1, 2006 - Present)                                  
• Consistently received exemplary performance reviews, including all distinguished ratings, using Charlotte Danielson's model for teacher evaluation. 
• Taught all grade levels and the following courses: English Language Arts 9, English Language Arts 11, Journalism, Newspaper, Skills for Success, a two-hour freshmen language arts class of struggling readers and at risk students.

• Involved in many school leadership activities, including building professional learning communities, MME testing, student mentoring, coaching, advising the student newspaper

• Taught four sections of English in a six-week summer institute for a group of 25 at risk students. The program immerses students in an academic, social, cultural, and recreational activities on the Northern Michigan University campus.
• Responsible for developing and organizing classroom content, presenting instructional, skill-building material to students and meeting with students in individual and group settings.
• Also attended various evening activities with the group and served as a counselor on field trips to Minneapolis and Chicago.

• Worked as a staff reporter for a small newspaper in the city of Escanaba. Reported on community events, school board and city meetings, and important issues in the community. Received excellent performance reviews from Managing Editor Brian Rowell.

Professor Jim McCommons
                                             
• Managed a staff of 10 editors and 20-30 writers, photographers and cartoonists while leading NMU’s independent student publication. Also Wrote 200 news, sports, feature and opinion articles while organizing, editing, and paginating content for the publication. 
• The paper was awarded third place for overall excellence in 2004 and 2005 at the Associated Collegiate Press Best of the Midwest regional competition.

• Observed, tutored and taught for approximately 100 hours at Marquette schools during college experience (2002-2005).
• Volunteered at “Make a Difference Day” for three years at NMU (2003-2005).
