                                    My Educational Leadership Internship


  1. A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community.
 

  • PLC committee revised mission statement.  I collaborated with other staff members to help outline the process and took leadership in writing the new goals and mission statement for our staff.  (Participation)

Status – Partially Achieved.
  We created a new mission statement, which is currently on display at our school’s website. Though the collective commitments was never finished. 

I am taking part in our school’s Strategic Planning, focusing on goals for school improvement for the 2011-2012 school year (Participation)

Status – Ongoing.  We have two more meetings this year.  I participated in this partially last year, but had to withdraw from the committee due to conflicts in scheduling with baseball. This year, the meetings are on non-game days, so I will see the process all the way through. I also will work with our new principal in upcoming meetings, which will be beneficial. 

2. An education leader promotes the success of every student by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.

I will take part in the after-school mentoring program that will begin in October. Every Tuesday I will work with students who are struggling in different academic areas and oversee the student mentoring process (Leadership)

Status: Achieved.  I led this process during the first year of my internship.  I occasionally worked with this group this year, but I passed on the leadership to others within the building to work with other commitmentsI also took on one student as a staff mentor this year.  

I helped plan professional development for staff that included using data from assessments to help create a video that analyzed our school culture.  This video was shown to staff during professional development. (Leadership)

Status: Achieved. The video was shown at March professional development and I used that time to discuss the results and lead professional development for an hour activity analyzing the results of the survey and video.

I worked with our curriculum director to revise written curriculum for the 9th grade English Language Arts classes and create a cumulative final examination  (Participation)

Status: Achieved. The curriculum was adapted and used this year.

3. An educational leader promotes the success of every student by ensuring the management of the organization, operation, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.

I was the Assistant Test Supervisor for the MME testing this year and assisted last year as well. The entire process took 6 months this year and I spent many long hours making sure that everything would run smoothly and that all testing coordinators were prepared.  After the test, I spent about 20 hours in one week after school, packing up materials and making sure all reports were submitted correctly. (leadership)

Status: Achieved.  Finished Test Make-ups this last month and testing was successfully administered to 350 kids.  Worked with mentor closely, but she left me in charge of running the show on test day. 

  • I helped monitor after school activities including athletic activities, dances and other special events. (participation)
Status: Achieved. I’ve probably attended about 15 athletic events/dances to assist in supervision with my mentor.  

4. An education leader promotes the success of every student by collaborating with faculty and community members, responding to a diverse community with needs and interests, and mobilizing community resources.   

  • I served as an advisor for a group of students that were planning and organizing, The Concert for Hope, a 2-day concert that raised nearly $6,000 for a local family who was dealing with medical costs of fighting cancer. (leadership) 

Status: Achieved
.  The Concert was held successfully in January. I worked with vendors and others interested in promoting the event.

5:  An education leader promotes the success of every student by acting with integrity, fairness and in an ethical manner.

  • Led Communication Camp each of the last two years.  This 3-day camp seeks student leaders and trains them how to communicate and work with students from other social groups.  This camp each year helps improve the school environment by bringing kids with differences together and showing them how similar and connected they are. (Leadership)

Status: Achieved
. This is one of my favorite programs I have taken part in as an educator.  Each year, I see kids grow into positive leaders in our school because of these three days at camp.

  • Served on an anti-bullying committee to promote ethical treatment within the school. (participation) 
Status: Ongoing. The committee started last semester and still meets every other Tuesday to discuss how the new bullying policy’s effectiveness and problems we have seen within the building.  

 
6. An education leader promotes the success of every student by understanding, responding to, and influencing political, social, economic, legal, and cultural functions.


  • Have worked for the MEA the last two years distributing flyers and calling members within the district to encourage them to go out and vote.  (participation) 
Status: Achieved.  I did it and I hate doing it, but I did this with a group of teachers in an effort to help promote candidates the union favored in the elections and promote the district bond issue last year, which was passed.


7. A school administrator understands and comprehensively applies technology.

  • Currently on the Pearson Inform District Technology committee, which seeks to develop teachers ability to use the program to analyze data and improve instruction. We meet once per month and are being trained to administer professional development next fall. (participation)  
Status: Ongoing – We have two more meetings this year before we are ready to provide training next fall. 

  • Trained staff on several online programs I used for my students including quizlet.com. as a part of professional development  Also utilized video editing software when creating Professional Development materials for Standard II goal.  (participation)
